Happy cinco de Mayo everybody. To celebrate the tequila filled Wednesday we’re all bound to have, I have some canciones to share with y’all. First up is “Juan Loco” Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. Some things you should know before diving into this one; the pair met in Mexico City while playing in the trash metal band, “Tierra Ácida”. And it shows. They were discovered by Damien Rice (that dude who wrote the killer track, The Blower’s Daughter) while playing in Europe. Finally, this duo has been enjoying a steady increase in popularity across the world. Felicitaciones!
Now unless you’ve been locked in a closet for the last 20 years, you’ve probably heard the works of Cuban masterminds Buena Vista Social Club. Their impact on the resurgence of interest in Latin music is nothing short of stunning.
Hear are a couple of American songs flipped turned upside down by the coolest club in Cuba.
The full cover album these songs are featured from can be found here.
